An all-around starter kit, the 4 x 4″ Glass 5-Filter Set from Cavision includes a series of five filters to suit a variety of shooting needs. The set is comprised of a linear polarizer, a soft mist black 1/4 filter, a graduated neutral density 0.6 filter, and both blue and orange graduated 0.3 color filters. Additionally, five soft filter pouches are also included to store and protect the filters.

• 4 x 4″ Linear Polarizer Filter

  The Cavision 4 x 4″ Linear Polarizer Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm-thick, 4 x 4″ rectangular filters. It helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

  A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions. This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.

  Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light. Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors. Strongest effect when used at a 90 angle from the sun. Recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus. Non-coated. 1.5 to 6x filter factor reduces exposure by 0.6 to 2.6 stops. Glass construction. Microfiber filter cloth included for filter maintenance as well as a soft pouch for storage and transport.

• 4 x 4″ Soft Mist Black 1/4 Filter

  The Cavision 4 x 4″ Soft Mist Black 1/4 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce sharpness and soften highlights. This can be useful for reducing the appearance of glare on a subject while creating a general soft-focus effect. When applied to digital cinematography or digital photography, the soft-focus effect provides results that emulate the appearance of recording with the grain structure and emulsion of film. Additionally, as highlights within a frame are diffused, ambient illumination is distributed to darker areas within the exposure, helping to balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows.

  This filter constructed from glass, is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick rectangular filters, and has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8 or 1/2 are also available where this filter type’s effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

  Helping to balance the overall exposure within a high-contrast scene, this 4 x 4″ Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 Filter from Cavision neutralizes the exposure between a dark foreground and a bright sky. Half of this filter has a 2 stop, 0.6 neutral density area and the other half is clear, with a medium-soft-edged transition between the two for a natural appearance when photographing uneven or undulating horizon lines. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you can balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

  This filter is constructed from 4mm-thick optical glass to maintain image clarity and it measures 4 x 4″.

  Medium soft-edged 0.6 ND graduated filter for darkening skies and other bright areas of the image. Neutral density filters do not affect the overall coloration of the image. Provides a 2 stop exposure reduction for holding back bright regions of the image.

• 4 x 4″ Soft-Edge Graduated Blue 0.3 Filter (1-Stop)

  The Cavision 4 x 4″ Soft-Edge Graduated Blue 0.3 Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 4″ rectangular filters. It can be used to add blue to a hazy or colorless sky. When used instead of a polarizer filter to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted polarization or additional contrast to any part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.

The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.
