TheSIGMA 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens introduces a traditional standard prime lens focal length to the all-metal SIGMA “I series.” This lens marks the fifth addition to the F2 I series, complementing the existing 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 65mm lenses. Each F2 I series lens is equipped with an arc-type AF/MF switch and a distinctive ring on the all-metal barrel. Specifically engineered for full-frame mirrorless systems, this DG DN lens features a metal lens hood, along with knurled manual-focus and aperture rings that provide a satisfying tactile experience. The F2 maximum aperture produces attractive bokeh effects, while the optical design achieves results similar to those of the 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lens, all within a more compact form (37% shorter and 48% lighter). Additionally, the lens minimizes flare and is resistant to backlighting. Autofocus is powered by a stepping motor, ensuring quick and dependable performance for both still photography and video. This lens stands out as a premier standard prime option for everyday applications, merging outstanding I series craftsmanship, robust optical capabilities, and a compact, fast-aperture configuration.

Compact 50mm

The 50mm lens is renowned for its versatility, offering a standard field of view complemented by a bright f/2 maximum aperture. This design achieves an optimal balance between compactness and low-light capability, while also providing control over depth of field. As a result, the 50mm f/2 lens serves as an excellent everyday option for capturing environmental portraits and landscapes, allowing for the isolation of details and subjects amidst complex scenes.

The Contemporary Line lens boasts a compact design, measuring approximately 2.75 x 2.75 inches and weighing just over 12 ounces, making it highly portable for daily photography needs without sacrificing optical quality or speed. Its internal focusing mechanism, combined with a stepping autofocus motor, delivers quick and responsive focusing performance, suitable for both still images and video recording. The optical configuration features one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element and three aspherical elements, enhancing sharpness while minimizing aberrations, complemented by a Super Multi-Layer Coating that effectively reduces flare and reflections. The lens also incorporates a rounded 9-blade diaphragm, which produces a smooth and aesthetically pleasing bokeh when utilizing selective focus techniques. It is compatible with autofocus assist functions and lens aberration correction on compatible cameras. Additionally, the lens is constructed to be dust and splash-resistant, featuring a brass bayonet mount that ensures precision and durability.

I Series Lens

Constructed entirely from metal, the I Series lenses feature precision-engineered aluminum components on the barrel, providing a sophisticated appearance alongside enhanced durability. The lenses are equipped with knurled aperture and focus rings, complemented by a knurled metal lens hood, which enhances the overall tactile experience. Additionally, the design includes an intuitive AF/MF switch, and the aperture ring is equipped with an ‘A’ position for seamless transition to aperture-priority exposure settings.

Included with the I Series lenses are both a traditional plastic lens cap and a magnetic metal lens cap, offering a more streamlined and minimalist attachment option. The magnetic lens cap is compatible with the optional CH-11 Magnetic Cap Holder.
